We are a British prep school with an international outlook, and we have a proven, long-standing record of helping children gain entry to some of the best senior schools in the UK, including Harrow School, Winchester College, Eton College, and Radley College.
At Horris Hill, we are committed to ensuring that every child reaches their full potential, as well as securing a place at a top-tier senior school. Whether your child is joining us from the UK or abroad, we’ll work closely with them to help them thrive academically and personally, consistently preparing them for the next step in their education journey.
We welcome children from all countries and nationalities, including many ex-pat and UK Forces families, and we truly value the diverse contributions every child makes to our school community.
Many of our international pupils, particularly those for whom English is a second language, join us in Years 3 or 4, giving them the best chance to improve their English, adapt to the British curriculum, and succeed in securing places at some of the best independent senior schools in the country. We also offer a limited EAL (English as an additional language) provision to support pupils as they navigate their educational journey.
However, for those looking for a shorter stay, our Immersion Programme and Summer Camps, may offer a perfect solution.
Short Stay Experience: Anton and Ignacio
For most children, this will be their first time away from home and parents can be assured that our pastoral care is first rate, ensuring every child is cared for in a safe and happy environment. For more information on boarding, please see our Boarding pages.
Travel
Horris Hill School is ideally located for easy access to London Heathrow (approximately one hour - click here for directions) and London Gatwick (approximately 1 hour 30 minutes - click here for directions) airports. The nearest train station is Newbury, served by Great Western Railway. The station is a short, ten minute drive from the school, and taxis are available outside the station.
Admissions and Assessment
The assessment process is the same for all pupils and more details can be found here. We will arrange remote interviews and parent meetings, and older children will be assessed virtually too. We expect a good level of English from our international pupils so that our wonderfully varied curriculum is enjoyed and understood.
Child Student Sponsorship (for children without a visa)
Horris Hill School is licensed by UKVI (UK Visas and Immigration Agency) to provide children with a sponsored place at the school. We accept applications from all non-British nationals. In accordance with UKVI guidelines, parents of overseas pupils may be required to pay between one and three terms' fees in advance before an online Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) is completed.
Guardians
Every overseas child must have an AEGIS-approved Guardian in the UK, living within reasonable distance of our school, who we can call should the child become ill and need to leave school, or who they may be staying with during exeat weekends. We will ask you to complete a Responsible Adult form before your child starts with us.
Documentation
To support the student’s visa application, the school provides a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) if required. The following documents are necessary for sponsorship:
- Birth Certificate
- Copies of the student’s passport
- Copies of the parents’ passports
- School report
- Guardianship contract and agreement
- TB certificate
- Travel arrangements for the child
Students requiring sponsorship or visa support, or whose main residence is overseas, will be charged an additional £500 per term for these additional services. All other fees remain as listed.
A deposit of £14,640 (or one term's boarding fees) is required for sponsored families, or those whose main residence is overseas.
