A Horris Hill holiday builds on the essential elements of a Horris Hill education. Situated in extensive grounds in a lovely corner of Hampshire countryside, the school has an extraordinary wealth of facilities, allowing children to experience a broad and enriching education that helps develop their confidence, skills and enjoyment in a range of areas.

This holiday camp is designed to allow overseas students the experience of an English education, whilst improving their language skills and giving them an experience of a programme of activities which will help them build friendships, develop teamwork and achieve a high level of self-belief as they try new things and learn about their own potential.

Arriving at Horris Hill, students will be accommodated in one of the three boarding houses at the heart of the school. This boarding house has dormitories of 4 or 5 students. Boarding school life is a big feature of top schools within England. Boarding houses contain additional rooms that can be used for socialising, playing games or just relaxing. The Hill boarding house is a fine example of this, with two comfortable common rooms. In the first, children can play board games, do artwork or just chat, whilst in the second, they can watch films or TV.

Boarding houses are designed to allow children to learn and socialise in the evenings and the social confidence that comes from these interactions is a key feature of boarding life. The camp is designed to balance three things – time spent learning, time spent playing outside and in other spaces, and time spent relaxing.

Each day children will use the mornings to get ahead with learning English in a variety of ways and contexts. Some lessons will be about learning language skills, but there will also be other lessons where children will practise creative skills such as story-writing, drama or art. With teachers from Horris Hill supporting the children, they will get a sense of what a Horris Hill education is like for the children in the school during the term.

Afternoons will be given over to activities which make best use of the extensive onsite facilities. There will be an opportunity to take part in some music in our large and well-resourced music school. There will be opportunities to play football, tennis or cricket on our playing fields, or golf on the 6-hole golf course that sits alongside the school. There will also be the opportunity to play games such as table tennis or basketball in our well-equipped Sports Hall. We have a newly built theatre that can be used for a variety of purposes, including performing or debating. The art and DT facilities are also excellent, and children will have the opportunity for some additional activities in these facilities.

There is a heated outdoor swimming pool, which the children use from April to October, and which provides the opportunity for a range of fun activities, from swimming races to water polo. We will find opportunities to use this facility for our camp.

Among all this activity will be a chance to relax in our grounds. Being in a school of 65 acres there is room to sit, relax or explore whilst being supported and monitored by staff to ensure safety and happiness. Many of our children relish their break times as they can choose which activities to engage in and they experience the freedom such time provides. For those who like to read or relax, we have an extensive library, a peaceful hub at the centre of school life.

As a school that caters for children who are in all week, the school will provide three main meals every day in our bright and recently refurbished dining room. The dining room sits in the heart of the school, close to the boarding house. This makes it easy for children to access it for breakfast, lunch and supper. The kitchens provide hot, nutritious meals for all the children across the week. The menu is carefully chosen to allow all children to enjoy their favourite meals and healthy choices ranging from salads and fruits to soups and puddings. We are very aware of how hungry children can become whilst experiencing the busy life of Horris Hill! We also include a variety of healthy snacks for the children to enjoy between activities. We believe that dining at Horris Hill is a chance for further social interaction, which is why our dining room is equipped both to allow family style meals as well as a canteen service.

The Horris Hill camp programme will follow a structure that breaks the day into three sections: morning, afternoon and evening.
