Development Projects

Since 2021, there has been significant investment in Horris Hill’s future.

STEAM (Science, Technology, Art, Engineering and Mathematics)

After updating the 1970’s science labs over the summer of 2021, phase 2 of this programme will involve converting the squash courts into a striking and contemporary art department which will be linked to the design technology centre. The creation of this art room will combine the new science labs and the design technology centre into one STEAM centre which, along with IT, is a critical part of your child’s education. Art is increasingly core to the creative thinking that we wish to develop in our children – and so more focus will be placed on that department. Investment will also be put into our much-loved train room, so that it can continue its magical journey at the school as it has for so many generations, while blending fun with electronics and engineering.

Computing

As part of the ICT development, we have recently purchased portable devices for every pupil and member of staff; upgraded systems and networks and invested in a suite of cyber security software and cyber security training for staff. All classrooms have been equipped with the latest technology including the latest interactive screens. We are confident that we now have the best technology and devices available, this will enable children to learn efficiently, reach their academic potential and prepare them for an increasingly technological future.

Sports

Sport is very close to many of our pupils’ hearts.  The Sports Hall was recently reconfigured and useable space significantly extended by removing the stage. We have also installed specialist multi-sports flooring with a view to providing the ideal indoor cricket coaching environment. Brand new indoor nets were also acquired plus moveable rain proof outdoor shelters for match days as well as a host of other equipment including new tennis and cricket ball machines.

Whilst we are excited about these investments in the sporting infrastructure of Horris Hill School, this is only the start as we wish to make Horris Hill a centre of sporting excellence.

Theatre

The David Brownlow Theatre is a new, state of the art theatre, in which we aim to set new standards in Prep School performing arts.  The impressive structure and immense performance space seats an audience of 150 with ease.  Pupils enjoy weekly drama, and LAMDA, lessons which are central to playing a key role in developing confidence.  Whatever career path pupils choose in later life, confidence for public-speaking and team spirit will be all-important.

Future Developments

Further investment will follow shortly, including a brand new full sized, flood-lit, Astroturf and new adventure play areas (which may even include a zip-wire through the forest – watch this space!)
